I'm excited to announce that I've just released a FREE gift to everyone - it was given to me and, after some processing and super-fying, I am re-gifting it to any and all through the Internet. It's a digital double live album called:

Come be part of Vorn's "recorded live" concert

I'm playing an opening set of my tunes at my friend Vorn's concert this upcoming Thursday - it's gonna be a cool show because Vorn and band are planning to record a live CD from this concert. Come make some noise and it'll be a fun night! Vorn's band is one of the first bands I saw in Wellington when I arrived in 2006, and I quickly became a fan. I'll probably play 30 to 45 minutes and then the evening will turn very uniquely Vornesque.

Arm's Length Away, 5 day preview

Stu Pedley to join Wellington show

I'm looking forward to my show in Wellington next Friday - it's gonna be fun to have Stu Pedley join me with his mandolin on several songs. I've picked a nice little licensed venue that we can easily fill up, especially if you bring a friend, ha ha. Or a date... Yes, bring a date and I will save a romantic song for last. Oh, and early birds get the best seats!

As some of you know, I have a little video camera and I plan to use it - I'll somehow video record this show while I'm playing. I've just been down to the "pimp my body" shop to get an extra arm attached to my waist and this week I'll be learning to use it.

Upcoming Wellington concert - Oct 9

I'm putting on a Friday evening (October 9) concert at Mojo Invincible on Willis Street. I intend to have some fun by adding a musician or two to some songs, and I plan to video record some of the show (especially for you Canadians that I won't be seeing this year). The venue has a warm interior/ambience and offers a good selection of wine, beer, and light food. I'll update you as the details unfold!

I recently uploaded a video of me performing The Romance of Kaslo, live at The Paramount (April 16, 2009) in Wellington, New Zealand. If you're confused because my Paramount concert was on the 17th, that's okay... I also made an appearance at a private show on the 16th.

I spent hours struggling with Cinelerra in Ubuntu to get this video edit to you, as well as mixing the audio in Ardour; it was fun! The video footage is courtesy of Kim Potter.

Gerry Paul to join Wellington show

A quick update regarding my Wellington show this Friday: Gerry Paul of Irish/Celtic band Grada will be joining me for several songs at the end of my set. He'll be bringing his banjo, guitar, hopefully some colorful pants, and he'll also be implementing my dears, Goldie and Ampie, on Greyhound Through the Rockies. It's been a year since my last show in Wellington - wow, it seems like just yesterday! Here's the deal - it's me and my guitars. This is a free, one-hour showcase of some songs that I am preparing to record for a new CD. I'll love it (and probably you'll love it) if you attend this fabulous and (did I mention?) free event.

Also, I am inviting (consider this an open invitation) any web writers or bloggers to attend, take in the show, and publish something about it. I am lacking online (and printed) praise and criticism, and I value the published words of web-savvy people like you and I. New website

Well, really it's just a revamp of the old website, which was too limited, fragmented and inconsistent. My new site has a unified theme throughout all pages, and most importantly it has all the navigational links on the left, and all the cool widgets on the right... on every page.

There's a few cool goodies added. In the right widget pane there's a search tool for finding content within jesserivest.com, plus a Twitter widget for real-time updates from me - Twitter is pretty exciting stuff! Oh, and if you're on the news page or a blog page, then you'll also see Google Adsense appearing in the right widget pane... yup, I'm into making a bit of extra cash. In the left navigation pane, I've added photos and videos links, and the Subscribe section is where you can stay up to date with a variety of RSS feeds.

Okay, enough of working on websites (hopefully) and back to music. I'm scheduled to shoot a video tomorrow for Do It Now, and I'm currently investigating friends' studios for recording a new CD. And then there's the tour timeline for the next year to be worked on!

Crazy Short Notice BDay Tour

Hi New Zealand! Hi! I'm here. Over here.

So, I'm having a birthday soon, and to celebrate I'm going down to the top of the south island for a week. Gonna play a few shows because I love doing that. It's summer, and on birthdays one should do what one loves. I'm calling it Jesse Rivest's Crazy Short Notice BDay Tour.

One show that needs special mention is Feb 13 @ Yaza Cafe in Nelson. Please come, and please tell anyone that may be in the area to also come... That will be a nice (slightly early) birthday prezzie for me! See my Performances section for more info, eh.

Video - A Traveller's Song

I've just uploaded my first (long overdue) video from my 2006 release Seventeen Oh-Two Oh-Six. The video was fun to make, gathering scenes from the West Coast and Abel Tasman of New Zealand (South Island). A Traveller's Song seemed like a naturally fitting song for the trip.
